The detour from the beaten path that is worth the extra effort
Once in Taiwan, getting to Green Island on a budget requires some considerable planning that is not to be taken lightly. The journey usually involves hours (or days) of buses, trains, and ships.
But despite the resources invested in getting to this small southeastern offshore Taiwanese territory, the abundance of landscapes, and the relatively simple life that it offers makes it all really worth it. The choices for outdoor activities range from the popular scuba diving spots with plenty of marine life, hiking trails, white sand beaches, and star gazing after sunset. Let us not forget the barbecue dinner with the gentle sound of the waves, and the salty sea breeze completing the atmosphere.
Likewise, the freedom to reach and explore pretty much any spot of this volcanic piece of land is really hard to match. That is how, equipped with a camera, a drone, a car, and a tireless desire to get the most of my visit to this little island, I finally managed to strikethrough Green Island from my must-go places in Taiwan, and take some nice images back home.
